Wavell Heights - Renovation
When we first met to chat about this family home, I knew we were going to create something special that was a true reflection of this family and how they wanted to live. The clients loved their home and its mid-century vibe and wanted to preserve as much of that as possible whilst also revamping and ever-so-slightly expanding the house to accommodate their daughters as they approached their teen years.
The girls occupy the extended part of the home – a small wing containing a large open plan space with loft beds above. While this is currently a shared space, it can be divided into three rooms if the need arises. They also have a ‘dressing room’ that they share in place of conventional wardrobes.
The other big move of this renovation was to flip the living areas – the kitchen now occupies where the lounge once was, and the lounge is a cosy, elevated room where the kitchen was previously. Our client had visions of family cooking sessions, so it was important for this room to facilitate that. This new position also has direct access to the front deck and pool, as well as the back terrace and fire pit garden.
