Terrace House
Built over two stages, this project is a substantial renovation and extension of a tiny Queenslander cottage on a steep slope in very original condition.
Stage one involved raising the cottage, building a new garage and entry at the lower level, and extending the upper level with a new Master Bedroom, walk-in-robe and ensuite. Within the footprint of the cottage, a new family bathroom was established, and raw timber walls were painted to brighten things up.
The more recently completed Stage Two is completely hidden from the street, tucked down on the lower levels behind the original cottage. The Kitchen, Dining and Lounge spaces have views over surrounding trees to the city and connect directly to a dining terrace and pool. Large windows with custom-designed sliding screens allow access to views, whilst still allowing for privacy and the ability to adapt to the sun’s position throughout the day and year.
A central courtyard and lightwell extend through the middle of the house and align with the main circulation stairs, creating a breezeway and glimpses of greenery wherever you move through the home.
